Ground-level terraces – key information
At first glance, this structure may not look very different from a terrace built on joists or a foundation wall. However, the construction process is quite different. Building a ground-level terrace involves a different, somewhat quicker and easier process, but it still requires proper design and preparation. At Gardpol, we are well aware of this, which is why we approach every project with complete professionalism and commitment, whatever type of terrace we are installing. This is the only way to ensure that our customers are fully satisfied with the results of our work!
A ground-level terrace will, for obvious reasons, always be somewhat lower than a terrace built on a foundation wall. It often does not require the installation of additional elements such as steps or a balustrade. This, in turn, means lower overall project costs.
Building a ground-level terrace
At Garden Polska, we take equal care at every stage of our projects. We start with the design and preparation of the ground beneath the structure. If necessary, we dismantle the old terrace or porch. We then sort and dispose of the resulting waste, and prepare the ground for the new project.
Building a ground-level terrace is most often done in one of the two most popular ways. The structure can be built on low concrete slabs or directly on the ground.
Even when installing a terrace directly on the ground, several construction stages are necessary to ensure that the finished structure is functional, safe and durable. The first step is to remove the top layer of soil, known as topsoil, and then replace it with a layer of sand, gravel or sand and gravel mix. It is worth compacting this layer as well, so that it provides a stable base for the terrace.
The terrace edging and its main surface can be laid on the ground prepared in this way.
