What are decking and paving pedestals?

Decking and paving pedestals provide a base for joists or paving slabs. Their purpose is to transfer the weight of the deck or patio onto a stable substrate. They work with various types of joists, including timber, composite and aluminium. They consist of five components: a head, a screw, a low nut, a high nut and a base.

Components of decking and paving pedestals

As mentioned in the previous paragraph, decking and paving pedestals consist of five components:

• head: the paving slabs are mounted on it;
• screw: allows the height to be adjusted and the head to be levelled;
• low nut: acts as a lock to prevent the pedestal from loosening by itself;
• high nut: stabilises the screw and enables height adjustment;
• base: increases the pedestal's load-bearing capacity. It features reinforcing ribs along the sides.
